The Department of Electrical Engineering at Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir, is dedicated to fostering excellence in teaching, research, and innovation in the domain of Electrical Engineering. The primary objectives of the department are as follows:

  • To provide comprehensive education at undergraduate (B.Tech.) and postgraduate (M.Tech.) levels, aimed at producing competent, technically sound, and industry-ready electrical engineers.
  • To establish a strong theoretical and practical foundation in core and emerging areas of Electrical Engineering, enabling students to address complex engineering problems with analytical and innovative approaches.
  • To develop and maintain advanced laboratory infrastructure that supports experiential learning, facilitates research, and aligns with contemporary industry standards and technological trends.
  • To promote high-quality research and scholarly activities, fostering a culture of inquiry, interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribution to knowledge creation and technological development.
  • To cultivate ethical values, professional responsibility, and a commitment to sustainable practices, preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to society and the engineering profession.
  • To engage proactively with industry, academia, and research organizations, creating opportunities for collaborative projects, internships, training, and knowledge exchange that enhance the academic and professional growth of students and faculty.

Best Practices:

  • The Department ensures the timely completion of B. Tech. and M. Tech. Final year project by conducting weekly progress presentations in phased manner.
  • The Department through its Board of Studies (BoS) ensures timely restructuring of the B. Tech and M. Tech. curricula to meet the industry demand and job opportunities of the students and focus on outcome based learning.
  • The Department maintains and upgrades the laboratory equipment and for safety precautions.
  • The Department offers mentorship and Counseling sessions to students to cater for their academic, professional, and personal needs.
  • The Department facilitates industry tours and short-terms visit to enhance the technical know-how to the students.
  • The Department encourage students to pursue internships during the vacations and acquire necessary problem-solving skills.
  • The Department invites national/international speakers to engage with its students for two-way transfer of knowledge.

Methodology used to identify Slow and Fast learners

Slow Learner: A student who takes time to learn academic concepts, requires help in the form of additional resources, counselling, and time

Fast Learner: A student who understands concept very quickly and is ready for enrichments and advancements of academic concepts and usually has a higher learning capacity

How to identify?

The concerned teacher identifies the learning abilities by observing the students attentiveness, participation and behavior in the class.

A threshold grade of 60% will be set on the basis of academic performance in the previous semester and current couse being taught.

  • For fast learners: Scores 60% and above
  • For slow learner: Scores less than 50%

Strategies adopted by the Department for the Slow Learners:

  1. Personalized Learning Plans: We assess individual learning challenges and design tailored strategies to address them.
  2. One-on-One Mentorship: Providing additional guidance through personalized tutoring sessions to clarify concepts.
  3. Multisensory Teaching Approaches: Utilizing visual aids, interactive tools, and hands-on experiments to reinforce learning.
  4.  Step-by-Step Explanation: Breaking down complex topics into simpler, digestible segments for easier comprehension.
  5. Peer Learning and Group Study Sessions: Encouraging collaborative learning, where students support and teach each other.
  6. Regular Feedback and Encouragement: Offering constructive feedback and positive reinforcement to build confidence.
  7. Time Management and Study Skills Workshops: Equipping students with effective study techniques and time management skills.
  8. Flexible Assessments: Implementing varied assessment methods, including oral presentations and project-based evaluations, to accommodate different learning styles.
  9. Use of Technology: Leveraging e-learning platforms, recorded lectures, and digital resources for self-paced learning.
  10. Emotional and Psychological Support: Creating a supportive learning environment that fosters self-esteem and motivation.

Strategies adopted by the department for the Fast Learners:

  1.  They are motivated to participate in online and offline extracurricular activities.
  2. They are encouraged to become a team leader and help other students in preparing their assignments and presentations.
  3. Encouraged to attend conferences and outreach activities.
  4. Encouraged to take up competitive exam training programs such NET, GATE, GRE, IELTS etc.
